Kenneth Gold

Ken Gold was born and raised in Southern California.   He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and has worked as a scientist, zoologist, behaviorist and animal welfare specialist. Gold’s interest in art developed at a young age, and while he has had little formal art education, he taught himself photography, painting and sculpture.

For the past 15 years he has focused on encaustic painting and sculpture using pigmented encaustic wax as a means to push the boundaries of his creative ideas, medium and process. He creates the paintings with up to 10 layers of encaustic paint, fusing each layer and using various melting and scraping tools to create texture.

Ken has traveled extensively throughout the US, Latin America, Europe and Asia, and always has a camera ready to photograph animals. He has lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, The Netherlands, Singapore, Oxford, England, Chicago and currently resides in Albany, California.
