Pru Starr

I was born in Tokyo, Japan and raised in Marin County, California. My career was teaching Art and English in Northwest and California public schools. I love to make things.

My studio projects combine unlikely materials with texture, such as applying encaustic medium to fiber, adding buttons or jewels onto two and three-dimensional spaces.  Encaustic’s dreamlike luminosity unifies in a poetically expressive way.  I enjoy finding interactive surprises in new combinations.  Currently, I am not interested in developing narrative statements in my work.

My husband and I live in the Sierra Foothills, West Point, California, and grow lavender.
