Encaustic Painting Workshop

With Angela White February 21 and March 14, 2026 from 11am - 3pm at the Benicia Arsenal, Studio 24, 940 Tyler Street

This workshop welcomes beginners and experienced encaustic painters looking to deepen their encaustic practice. We’ll cover essential materials, techniques, and safety, along with supports and grounds, layering and fusing, scraping, transparencies, collage, image transfer, and combining encaustic with oil and other media. What is Included: The use of encaustic equipment is included: heated palettes, heat guns, torches, encaustic medium, soy wax.

Required Materials List: Panels/supports to work on: 6”x6”, 8”x8”, 8”x10” — luan, pine, birch, and/or boards treated with encaustic gesso; multiple bristle or sable brushes — no synthetic as they will burn or melt; encaustic paint, which can be purchased at most area art stores or online; rags or paper towels. Suggested Materials List: Mark-making tools (printmaking, sculpture, ceramic, dental, culinary, burnishers, scrapers, stamps, scribes). Images for transferring: Photocopies, drawings, or items for experimentation.
